The prices. MyFitnessPal Premium is $79.99 a year, shown on the pricing page as $6.67 a month. Premium+ is $99.99 billed annually, shown as $8.34 a month, or $24.99 a month if you pay monthly. There is still a free tier. It no longer includes barcode scanning, which moved to Premium on 1 October 2022. All figures are US, read on 10 September 2026.

Why the App Store shows different numbers
Open the US App Store listing and the in-app purchase list reads: MyFitnessPal Monthly Premium $9.99 and $19.99, Yearly Premium $49.99 and $79.99, Annual Premium $79.99, MyFitnessPal Premium $49.99. Five of those are not on the website.
Nothing sinister is happening. An App Store listing enumerates every price point a publisher has configured, including promotional and legacy ones, and no single user is offered all of them. The practical consequence: the $49.99 annual price exists, so if you are shown it inside the app during a promotion, it is $30 below the web price. Check the in-app offer before subscribing on the website.
What the free tier lost
In August 2022 MyFitnessPal announced that from 1 October, barcode scanning would need Premium, and emailed free users to tell them. Premium cost $19.99 a month at the time, and MyFitnessPal offered 50% off a first year to soften it. The change held. Today the App Store description sells Premium on "Faster nutrition, calorie & macro tracking with barcode scan, meal scan & voice logging".
This is the single fact behind most searches for MyFitnessPal's price. Scanning a barcode is roughly a two-second action; searching the same product by name and picking the right entry from a crowd-built list is closer to thirty. Over a week of packaged food, that difference is what people are being asked to buy.
Cost over time, and what else that money buys
| App | Cheapest annual (US) | Three years | Free barcode scanning |
|---|---|---|---|
| MyFitnessPal Premium | $79.99 | $239.97 | No |
| MyFitnessPal Premium+ | $99.99 | $299.97 | No |
| Cronometer Gold | $59.99 | $179.97 | Yes, free tier includes it |
| MacroFactor | $59.99 (also $71.99 listed) | $179.97 | No free tier at all |
| Lose It! lifetime | $49.99 or $59.99, once | $49.99 or $59.99 | No |
| MacroLog Pro | $49 | $147 | Yes, unlimited on the free tier |
Each rival figure comes from that company's own page or US App Store listing, read 10 September 2026. MacroLog is our app; treat its row as an interested party's claim and check it in the store.
How to cancel MyFitnessPal
The rule that trips people: you cancel where you bought it, and deleting the app cancels nothing. Billing lives with Apple, Google or MyFitnessPal's own website, depending on where you subscribed.
Bought on iPhone or iPad. Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription, tap Cancel Subscription. Apple notes that if there is no Cancel button, or an expiration date appears in red, it is already cancelled.
Bought on a Mac. Open the App Store app, click your name, click Account Settings, click Subscriptions, click the subscription, click Cancel Subscription.
Bought on Android. Go to subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription, follow the instructions. Google states you keep access "for the time you've already paid", cancelling stops the next charge, it does not refund the current period.
Bought on myfitnesspal.com. Neither Apple nor Google holds that subscription, so the steps above will not find it and MyFitnessPal's own help centre is the place to go. Its cancellation article blocks automated requests, so we have not reproduced its steps here rather than paraphrase a page we could not read today.
Before you cancel, take your data out. Downloadable progress reports are a Premium feature, so exporting after the subscription lapses is harder than exporting while it is live.
Questions people ask about the price
Is MyFitnessPal still free?
Yes, there is a free tier with calorie and macro logging. Barcode scan, meal scan, voice logging, custom macro goals and the fasting tracker are Premium.
How much is MyFitnessPal a month?
The website shows $24.99 a month for Premium+. Monthly in-app purchases of $9.99 and $19.99 also exist on the US App Store listing, which is why quoted monthly prices differ across the web.
Is Premium+ worth $20 more than Premium?
Only for the meal planner and the 1,500+ recipes with grocery syncing. Every tracking feature is already in Premium. If you plan meals in a spreadsheet or not at all, the extra $20 buys nothing you will open.
Does the price change by country?
Yes. Everything here is US pricing on the US web and US App Store. Store prices are set per storefront.
What is the cheapest way to get barcode scanning?
Not paying for it. Cronometer's free tier includes a barcode scanner alongside up to 84 nutrients, and MacroLog's free tier includes unlimited barcode scanning. Both are compared in the pages linked below.

What this guide does not cover
Prices outside the US, student or partner discounts, and whatever promotional price you personally see inside the app, which we cannot know. It does not tell you what happens to your logged history when a Premium subscription lapses, because MyFitnessPal's help centre would not serve that page to us today and we will not guess at it. And the honest limit on our own alternative: MacroLog has no meal planner, no recipe library and no working multi-device sync, so if the reason you pay MyFitnessPal is meal planning or logging from two devices, switching to us would cost you a feature you use.

If the price is the problem, the next page is the alternatives table, which lists what six other apps put in their free tier today. If you are weighing a specific rival, start with Cronometer vs MyFitnessPal.
